Parshat Tzav- Instructions

Moses was commanded by G-d to consecrate the Kohanim (Priests), the Tabernacle, and its vessels. The ceremony was to be held in front of all the Children of Israel. G-d says to Moses, “Gather the Jewish people in front of the Tent of Meeting.”(Leviticus 8:4)

Rashi states this was one of the times a small area was able to sustain large amounts of people.

The Medrash Tanchuma relates the exact conversation between Moses and G-d:
Moses asks, “Where shall Israel gather for the consecration of the Tabernacle?”
G-d answers, “In front of the Tent of Meeting.”
Moses asks, “That's not possible. There are six hundred thousand men and the entrance area in front of the tent is only two Sa'ah.” (approx. 140' x 140')
G-d retorts to Moses, “Is this what bewilders you? I (G-d) had spread open the world from a shut curtain.”

G-d was telling Moses that if He had commanded a specific action there is no need to doubt its feasibility. As the world was created from nothing, so too was extra space miraculously created in front of the Tent of Meeting.

There are many specific commandments in our Torah that undoubtedly seem very difficult to perform. However, if G-d tells us to perform a commandment then we can only trust that it will be feasible to do it.
